abstract An interactive interface allowing to interact with video information creates a displayed visual representation of a quasi-object called a root visual presentation: The root visual presentation consists of a set of fundamental images selected from the video information and arranged so that their respective x and y axes are aligned with the x and y axes of the root visual presentation and the z axis of the root visual presentation corresponds to the time axis, so that the fundamental images are spaced on the z axis of the root visual presentation according to their temporal separation. The displayed visual representation of the root visual presentation changes according to the designated viewing position as if the root visual presentation were a three-dimensional object. The user can manipulate the displayed representation by designating different observation positions, by choosing parts of the video information to be reproduced and by ordering special effects such as cutting the quasi-object in order to obtain a better view of a image in particular. A toolkit allows an interface designer to design such interfaces, in particular in order to limit and direct the way in which the end user can interact with the interface.
