The present invention relates to the use of a catalyst based on chromium oxide CrO3 and, where appropriate, at least one alkali metal oxide, in the state supported on a porous support, for the oxidative dehydrogenation paraffinic hydrocarbons to form the corresponding monoolefins. The alkali metal oxide, advantageously present, is in particular potassium oxide. The oxidative dehydrogenation process consists in bringing the paraffinic hydrocarbon into contact with molecular oxygen or a gas containing oxygen, and, where appropriate, an inert diluent gas, said reaction also being able to be carried out in the presence of 'water. By operating with the above catalyst, the oxidative dehydrogenation is carried out with high efficiency at moderate temperatures. |
