New indane derivatives of general formula (I), their preparation and the pharmaceutical compositions which contain them. In the general formula (I), R1 = ethyl or vinyl, R1a = H, R3a = H, R3b = H (alpha or beta), R4 = OH or alkanoyloxy, R4a = H, or else R4 and R4a together form a function ketone, R5 and R5a = H, R6 = H or OH, R6a = H, R7 = methyl optionally substituted, R7a = H or R7 and R7a together form a methylene radical, R7b = H (of relative beta configuration) and R8 = OH, alkoxy or alkanoyloxy, it being understood that, when R4 = OH and R4a = H or else R4 R4a together form a ketone function, R7 and R7a together form a methylene radical, R7 = methyl optionally substituted and R7a = H, R5a and R6a can together form a bond, and that when R7 = optionally substituted methyl, R6 = OH and R4 = OH or alkanoyloxy, R3b -R4a, R5a -R6a and R7a -R7b each form a bond.
