This invention relates to an oxide of formula MxOy, surface-modified, wherein M is selected from silicon, hafnium, zirconium, titanium and aluminum and x and y satisfy the relationship y = (xv) / 2 where v represents the oxidation state of the element M in the oxide in question, said modified oxide comprising surface MH units, characterized in that it is obtained by hydrogenolysis at a temperature of between 610 and 1200.degree. an amorphous oxide of formula MxOy, in which M, x and y are as defined above, this oxide being surface-modified so as to present surface M-OH units. |
