Disclosed is a phosphor which is suitable for use for a fluorescent display device and is driven at a driving voltage as low as 1 kV or less and does not contain S or Cd. Compounds of Ti, alkali metal Earth and an element of Group III of the periodic table, in predetermined quantities, are heated to a temperature ranging from 1100 to 1400 deg. C to be calcined, giving rise to a solid state solution of the element of earth rare, and a Group III element being formed in a phosphor matrix consisting of an alkaline earth metal oxide and Ti. An example of the phosphor is SrTiO3: Pr, Al showing a luminous red color. |
