abstract |
Disclosed is a method for directly precipitating a spherical amorphous silica with high yield by adding a carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) as a coagulation growth agent in a step of neutralizing the alkali silicate with an acid. The CMC having a particular degree of esterification and a particular degree of polymerization is added in an amount of 1 to 100% by weight calculated as SiO2 with respect to the silica in the alkali silicate, whereby the whole silica particles transforms into spherical amorphous silica particles having high sphericity. Thus, spherical amorphous silica particles having a BET specific surface of 25 to 800 m2 /g, an apparent specific gravity of 0.1 to 0.8 and a particle diameter of 0.2 to 50 mum can be obtained at a few fresh and with a high return. |
