titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of adipic acid or pentenoic acid |
abstract | The process for preparing adipic acid and / or pentenoic acid consists of: 1) forming a reaction mixture containing: a) one or more acids or lactones chosen from diacids with 6 branched and saturated carbon atoms, lactones with 5 saturated carbon atoms, saturated 6-carbon diacid anhydrides and branched 5-carbon monoolefinic monoacids; b) carbon monoxide; and c) an iridium-based catalyst associated with a promoter consisting of an iodide; 2) heating said reaction mixture to a temperature between about 175 degrees C and about 230 degrees C, while maintaining a carbon monoxide pressure between 0 and 2000 psi absolute (0 and 15860 kPa) and wherein the active iodide / iridium in the reaction mixture is between 0.5 / 1 and 20/1 and the iridium content of the reaction mixture is about 100 to 8000 µm by weight of the reaction mixture. |
