abstract The invention lies in the field of the disposal of reformed munitions. It relates to a method and an installation (1) for destroying such a munition equipped with a pyrotechnic burst device, submerged in a swimming pool (12), which is filled with a liquid neutralizing the toxic agent and which comprises a blanket (13). The problem is to completely destroy the ammunition in a single cycle of operation without risk of contamination. Said swimming pool is then closed so as to be gas-tight, the pyrotechnic device is ignited. The bursting of the ammunition releases the toxic agent in the neutralizing liquid, after the duration of the neutralization of the toxic agent, the pool is reopened for another cycle of destruction. Application to the destruction of ammunition containing toxic chemical or bacteriological agents.
