abstract The subject of the invention is a process for the preparation of 4-methyl-2'-cyano-biphenyl of formula: (CF DRAWING IN BOPI) characterized in that one reacts, in the presence of a manganese salt, a halide of benzonitrile of general formula: (CF DRAWING IN BOPI) in which Hal represents a halogen atom, with an organometallic derivative of general formula: (CF DRAWING IN BOPI) in which M represents a lithium atom or a -MgX radical in which X represents a halogen atom, then the resulting complex is hydrolyzed to provide the desired compound.
