titleOfInvention NOVEL ABSORBENT POLYMERS, MANUFACTURING PROCESS AND THEIR APPLICATION, PARTICULARLY TO HYGIENE ARTICLES.
abstract Absorbent, crosslinked, hydrophobic, water-insoluble polymers in the form of microbeads, based on silica and acrylic acid partially salified by an alkali metal, characterized in that they can be obtained by a suspension polymerization process water in oil in which is introduced slowly, with stirring, into a perfectly deoxygenated oil phase maintained at the boiling point and containing a protective colloid, an aqueous phase obtained extemporaneously from, on the one hand, an aqueous solution containing one or more water-soluble polymerization initiators, free radical generators, and on the other hand, an aqueous phase containing at a concentration of 50 + - 15% by weight a mixture containing by weight from 2 to 25% of colloidal silica and from 98 to 75% of 'acrylic acid of which 60 to 80% are salified by an alkali metal, with a weight ratio of aqueous phase to oil phase of between 0.8 and 1.2, then when the reaction polymerizes tion is completed, 15 to 55% of the water present is removed by azeotropic distillation with recycling of the organic solvent, then 0.01 to 0.06% of the water present is introduced into the reaction medium at boiling point. molar proportions relative to the ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether monomers and the azeotropic distillation of the residual water is continued until a suspension having a dryness level of 85 + - 10% is obtained and the mixture is isolated finally by filtration the desired polymer; application as an absorbent compound and in an article of hygiene and method of preparation.
