abstract The insulating and purifying pulverulent coating (3) covering the surface of a liquid metal (2) contained in a metallurgical vessel (1) comprises a layer (4) which contains one or more metal oxides of a basic nature, capable of reacting with metallic inclusions and in particular alumina contained in the liquid metal. Said layer (4) covers a first layer (5) in direct contact with the liquid metal and also containing one or more of said metal oxides and added with a flux in an amount sufficient for this layer (5) to become fluid under the heat effect of liquid metal (2). Use to improve the efficiency of liquid metal roofing coatings.
