abstract The present invention relates to a process for the preparation in a liquid hydrocarbon of a Ziegler-Natta type catalyst based on a vanadium compound and a titanium compound which are precipitated by a reduction reaction on a spherical support. of magnesium chloride. The precipitation is carried out by contacting (a) a reducing agent for vanadium and titanium chosen from organometallic compounds with (b) a vanadium compound, (c) a titanium compound, both soluble in liquid hydrocarbon and (d) a particular spherical support of magnesium dichloride and an electron donor compound. The prepared catalyst is used in particular to manufacture, in suspension or in the gas phase, polyethylene and ethylene copolymers.
