abstract | The invention relates to a method for the determination of urea, or urease in liquid media, in particular in biological fluids. According to the invention, the sample containing respectively the urea to be assayed or the urease to be assayed is mixed with a first reagent consisting essentially of an aqueous solution of a chemical compound which is stable in said solution at least for the duration of the test. assay, the coloring of which varies as a function of pH, in the pH range from about 5.5 to about 9, said solution optionally containing urease or urea, where appropriate, said urease or urea being, if not, added subsequently in the form of an aqueous solution and then constituting a second reagent, and the concentration respectively of the urea or of the desired urease is deduced from the difference in the measurements of the optical density of the sample at the same wavelength of the visible spectrum carried out before and after the hydrolysis action by urease, this difference being compared with the result obtained, under the same conditions, with a standard solution of urea or urease respectively .
