abstract | The present invention relates to a process for preparing alpha-alkylidene-substituted lactones from alpha-acetyl-substituted lactones. The process according to the invention comprises the reaction of substantially equimolar quantities of an alpha-acyl-lactone, of an aldehyde of formula R'CHO in which R 'is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms. carbon, and an alkali metal hydroxide, at a temperature in the range of 50 degree (s) C to 150 degree (s) C in an inert solvent with removal of the water of reaction. The process is intended for the preparation of alpha-alkylidene-gamma-butyrolactones and alpha-alkylidene-delta-valerolactones. |
