| abstract |
A new antibiotic substance, janthinomycin, is prepared by culturing a strain of the microorganism Janthinobacterium lividum, A.T.C.C. ndegre (s) 53 857. This antibiotic has the following formula: L-Ile-betaHL-L-Thr-L-Ser-betaHL-DELTAAbu-D-Ser-XD-Orn-L-Phedin which DELTA-Abu is the acid dehydro-alpha-amino-butyric; betaHL is D-erythro-beta-hydroxyleucine; and X is beta-hydroxytryptophan, beta-ketotryptophan or dehydrotryptophan. The new antibiotic is active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and against anaerobic bacteria. |
