The invention relates to a method and a device for generating heat from the combustion of a fuel with reduced emissions of sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides. According to the invention, combustion is carried out in a combustion chamber 1 under conditions close to stoichiometry between 700 and 1,100 degree (s) C and part of the heat is removed. The combustion effluents and absorbent particles with a particle size between 1 and 100 micrometers are then introduced into a turbulence zone 9. Desulfurization is carried out, in a transported bed, in an adiabatic desulfurization chamber 8, in an oxidizing atmosphere, in conditions such that the oxygen content at the outlet of the desulfurization chamber is between 0.1 and 5% by volume. A mixture of particles and desulfurized effluents is thus produced which is introduced into a heat recovery chamber 16. Then, the cooled particles are separated at 26 from the desulfurized effluents, denitrogenated and containing substantially no more unburnt combustible compounds, and the cooled particles are then separated. rejects said effluents.
