titleOfInvention EXCITATION COILS COATED WITH MATERIAL TO BE REFLECTIVE FOR HIGH INTENSITY DISCHARGE LAMPS WITHOUT ELECTRODES
abstract An excitation coil, for stimulating a high intensity discharge plasma in an electrodeless discharge lamp, has a conductor 14 providing at least one layer, on its outer surface 14s, of a specular or diffuse reflective material 18 imparting to the coil a reflectance of at least 0.85, so as to minimize absorption by the coil of light produced by the lamp arc. An underlying and intermediate layer can be used to facilitate passivation of the conductor of the coil, increase the adhesion of the reflective layer, etc. Application to high frequency coils for high intensity discharge lamps not comprising electrodes.
