titleOfInvention | ELECTRONIC TUBE FOR DETECTING, STORING, AND SELECTING LIGHT IMAGES |
abstract | The invention relates to the observation of very rapid luminous phenomena. We want to temporarily store a series of images arriving at high speed (one every 10 manoseconds) for a sufficient duration (one microsecond) to have time to receive an order for selecting an image of interest to analyze; the other images, which we had only kept in memory in the event that one would be interesting, are gradually eliminated if they are not selected. An electron tube is used for converting light images into electron packets; each packet represents an image; the packages move through the tube from end to end, one behind the other. We use the property of these electron packets to move much slower than light if the electric fields in the tube are weak. A large number of images can therefore be temporarily stored in the form of these electron packets passing through the tube for a period which may be one microsecond. At the end of the journey, a selection grid G4 makes it possible to select a desired image and send it to the exit face ES of the tube. |
