A lamp containing a charge of xenon, mercury and a metal halide is disclosed which serves as a light source for lighting applications, more particularly suitable as an automobile headlight. Xenon is used to provide instant automotive light, while mercury and metal halide work to provide a high efficiency, long life lamp compared to either a xenon lamp or a gas lamp. tungsten. The dimensions of the lamp of the present invention are about 3/5 that of a typical tungsten lamp used for vehicle lighting. The reduction in the dimensions of the lamp allows a corresponding reduction in the reflector 12, which satisfies the aerodynamic needs of motor vehicles. Applications to automobile headlights. |
