titleOfInvention | PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF URANIUM NITRIDE AND / OR PLUTONIUM USEFUL AS NUCLEAR FUEL |
abstract | The invention relates to a process for preparing a mononitride of formula U1 - x Pux N in which x is a number ranging from 0 to 1. This process consists in mixing UO2 and / or PuO2 with carbon to form a mixture containing at plus 10% by weight of carbon, heating the mixture to a temperature of 1500 to 1600 degree (s) C under a stream of nitrogen, then under a stream of nitrogen and hydrogenated rare gas containing less than 8% by volume of hydrogen to form the nitride, and in cooling the nitride obtained, preferably under a stream of hydrogenated rare gas containing less than 8% by volume of hydrogen. The use of these different gas streams makes it possible to minimize the carbon and oxygen contents of the mononitride obtained which can be used as nuclear fuel. |
