abstract THE PRESENT INVENTION RELATES TO A PROCESS FOR MONITORING THE FORMATION AND EMISSIONS OF SULFUR OXIDE DURING THE COMBUSTION OF A COMBUSTIBLE OIL IN THE FORM OF A HYDROCARBON EMULSION IN WATER. THE OBJECT OF THE INVENTION IS TO OBTAIN A PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF A COMBUSTIBLE OIL FROM BITUMEN AND RESIDUAL OIL BY FORMING AN OIL-IN-WATER EMULSION. THIS PURPOSE IS ACHIEVED BY A PROCESS INCLUDING THE FORMATION OF AN EMULSION OF HYDROCARBON IN WATER AND THE ADDITION TO THIS EMULSION OF HYDROCARBON IN WATER OF A WATER SOLUBLE ADDITIVE , CHOSEN FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF NA, K, LI, CA, BA, MG, FE AND THEIR MIXTURES, SO AS TO OBTAIN LEVELS OF SO EMISSIONS BY COMBUSTION OF THIS EMULSION LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO 1.50 LIVREMMBTU (2 , 7 KGGCAL) (0.64.10KGKJ). THIS PROCESS ALLOWS, IN PARTICULAR, TO CONVERT A FUEL WITH A HIGH SULFUR CONTENT, IN ENERGY, BY COMBUSTION WITH A SENSITIVE REDUCTION OF SULFUR OXIDE EMISSIONS.
