THE PROCESS IS CHARACTERIZED BY: -ADDITION TO AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF SODIUM SALICYLATE OF A SUFFICIENT QUANTITY OF ORGANIC SOLVENT FOR SALICYLIC ACID; -ADDITION OF STRONG MINERAL ACID IN QUANTITY AT LEAST EQUAL TO THE STOECHIOMETRY BY RELATION TO SODIUM SALICYLATE; -SEPARATION OF AN ESSENTIALLY ORGANIC PHASE CONTAINING SALICYLIC ACID AND OF AN AQUEOUS PHASE CONTAINING THE MINERAL SODIUM SALT FORM. THE PRESENT PROCESS LEADS TO A SALICYLIC ACT CONTAINING VERY LOW QUANTITIES OF SODIUM MINERAL SALT, PARAHYDROXYBENZOIC ACID OR 4-HYDROXY ISOPHTHALIC ACID, WHICH ALLOWS ITS USE IN NUTRITIONAL NUTRITIONAL OR MEDICAL APPLICATIONS.
