THE INVENTION RELATES TO A PROCESS FOR THE REDUCING CARBONYLATION OF AN ALDEHYDE IN WHICH THE ALDEHYDE IS USED IN THE FORM OF HEMIACETAL-ESTER, THE REACTION BEING CARRIED OUT IN THE PRESENCE OF A CATALYST WHICH IS A COBALT CARBONYL COMPLEX. HEMIACETAL-ESTER CAN BE OBTAINED IN SITU BY REACTION OF ACETAL AND ANHYDRIDE OF ACID. THE PROCESS ALLOWS PREFERENTIALLY TO OBTAIN FREE OR ESTERIFIED ALKYLENE-GLYCOL MONOETHERS FOR AN HCO RATIO BETWEEN 1: 1 AND 3: 1, AND PREFERENTIALLY ALKOXY-2 ALDEHYDES FOR AN HCO RATIO BETWEEN 0.1: 1 AND 0.5: 1. |
