THE SCAN OPHTHALMOSCOPE INCLUDES, FOR THE ILLUMINATION OF THE EYE, A LIGHT SOURCE A BLOCK, FOLLOWED BY A GO B REFRACTION COMPENSATOR, THEN A SCAN SUBASSEMBLY C, AND FINALLY A CLEAN CATOPMENT OPHTHALMOSCOPE SAID D. THESE LAST TWO ELEMENTS ARE COMMON FOR THE OUTbound AND RETURN JOURNEY. ON RETURN, AFTER CROSSING THE PARTIAL REFLECTIVE BLADE L, THE OBSERVATION BEAM PASSES THROUGH ANOTHER REFRACTION COMPENSATOR B, FOLLOWED BY DETECTOR DEVICE E, AND AN ELECTRONIC TREATMENT CIRCUIT F. A LARGE SYMMETRY OF BEAM TREATMENT IS MAINTAINED BETWEEN THE OUTBOUND AND THE RETURN JOURNEY. THE OPTICAL OF THE SUBASSEMBLY D IS ESSENTIALLY CONSTITUTED OF A SPHERICAL MIRROR M. THE M AND M SCAN MIRRORS ROTATE AROUND RESPECTIVE COLINEAR ROTATION AXES TO THE FOCALS OF ASTIGMATISM THAT THE SPHERICAL MIRROR WOULD PRODUCE IN THE IMAGE A PUNCTUAL PATIENT PUPIL. |
