THE PENCILS IN ZONES 1, 2 OF THE FIRST SET EMIT NEUTRONS AND MAINTAIN NEUTRONIC REACTIONS. THE ENERGY SPECTRUM OF THE NEUTRONS IS IN THE THERMAL DOMAIN, IN ZONES 1, 2. THE PENCILS OF ZONES 3 OF THE SECOND SET ARE SPACED A SENSITIVELY LOWER DISTANCE THAN THE DISTANCE SEPARATING THE PENCILS FROM ZONES 1, 2 SO THAT THE NEUTRONS PRODUCED THERE ARE IN THE FIELD OF HIGH ENERGIES.
