abstract IT HAS BEEN SURPRISINGLY FOUND THAT THE BENZAMIDES OF FORMULA: (CF DRAWING IN BOPI) OR R AND R EACH INDEPENDENTLY REPRESENT A HYDROGEN, A HALOGEN, A LOWER ALCOHYL, A LOWER ALCOXY, A CYANO, A TRIFLUOROMETHYL, A SULFAMOYL, A LOWER MONO-ALCOYL-SULFAMOYL OR A LOWER DI-ALCOYL-SULFAMOYL OR TOGETHER, IF NEIGHBORED, A METHYLENEDIOXY GROUP, WITH THE PRECISION THAT, IF R REPRESENT 3, IF R REPRESENT IN DIFFERENT HYDROGEN, AS WELL AS THEIR PHARMACEUTICALLY APPLICABLE ACID ADDITIONAL SALTS PRESENT WITH LOW TOXICITY INTERESTING PROPERTIES OF INHIBITION OF MONOAMINE OXIDASE AND CAN THEREFORE BE USED TO TREAT DEPRESSIVE CONDITIONS AND DISEASES.
