abstract THE INVENTION RELATES TO A PROCESS FOR IN-LINE DYED FIBERS IN THE GEL STATE, CHARACTERIZED IN THAT IT ESSENTIALLY INCLUDES EXTRUSION OF THE LIQUID TO BE SPINNED IN A COAGULATION BATH, STRETCHING THE RESULTING FILAMENTS, WASHING FILAMENTS TO REMOVE RESIDUAL SOLVENT, PASSING A DYE BATH THROUGH THE RESULTING FILAMENT CUTTING WITH AN OVERALL FLOW OF MORE THAN 4 CM OF BATH PER SECOND PER CM OF SURFACE AREA OF THE CUTTING. THE OVERALL FLOW RATE, PREFERRED IN THE RANGE OF 4 TO 10 CMSECONDE PER CM, IS OBTAINED BY MEANS OF CROSS-CURRENTS IN RELATION TO THE DIRECTION OF THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE STOVE AND DIRECTED ALTERNATIVELY TOWARDS AND FROM THE STOVE, THE LENGTH OF STAY OF THE CUT IN THE DYE BATH DOES NOT EXCEED 5 SECONDS. THE STOFF IS THEN SUBJECTED TO A THERMAL TREATMENT FOR SETTING THE COLORANT THEN WASHED, PRIMED AND DRYED. THE PROCESS IS PARTICULARLY SUITABLE FOR USE WITH ESSENTIALLY ACRYLIC AND MODACRYLIC FIBERS.
