abstract Catalytic system comprising on the one hand at least one halogenated compound of a transition metal from groups IV to VI of the periodic table and with a valence less than or equal to 3 and on the other hand at least one metallic activator, the atomic ratio of metal of the activator to the transition metal being between 1 and 6, said system being characterized in that the metal activator has the formula: (AIR2 I) x (B) 1-x in which R is an alkyl radical having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, 0.1 = <x = <0.8 and B is chosen from: a) trialkylaluminums of formula AIR'3 in R 'is an alkyl radical having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms; b) alkylsiloxalanes of formula: (CF DRAWING IN BOPI) R1, R2, R3 and R4 being saturated hydrocarbon radicals having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, R5 being either a saturated hydrocarbon radical having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms or a radical of the type (CF DRAWING IN BOPI) and c) the dialkylzincs of formula ZnR "2 in which R" is an alkyl radical having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms. Application to the (co) polymerization of ethylene.
