THE PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED CONSISTS OF ALLOWING THE OBTAINING OF A HIGH BIREFRINGENCE AND LOW DIELECTRIC ANISOTROPY. FOLLOWING THE INVENTION, THE MATERIAL INCLUDES A MIXTURE OF CYANOBIPHENYL COMPOUNDS: (CF DRAWING IN BOPI) IN WHICH R REPRESENTS AN ALKYL GROUP WHICH MAY HAVE UP TO 10 CARBON ATOMS AND A STRAIGHT CHAIN; AND OF PHENYLCYCLOHEXANE COMPOUNDS: (CF DRAWING IN BOPI) IN WHICH R REPRESENTS AN ALKYL GROUP WHICH MAY HAVE UP TO 10 CARBON ATOMS AND A STRAIGHT CHAIN; AND ESSENTIALLY NON-POLAR COMPOUNDS: (CF DRAWING IN BOPI) IN WHICH N IS INCLUDED BETWEEN 1 AND 4, AND EACH OF THE R AND R GROUPS, WHICH MAY BE THE SAME OR DIFFERENT, REPRESENTS AN ALKYL GROUP THAT CAN HAVE UP TO 10 ATOMS OF CARBON AND STRAIGHT CHAIN.
