A.PROCESS OF TREATMENT OF BULK PRODUCTS SUCH AS GRAIN WITH HYDROGEN PHOSPHORUS (PHOSPHINE). B. IT IS PROVIDED THAT THE HYDROGEN PHOSPHORUS CONTAINING GAS CIRCULATES IN A CLOSED LOOP THROUGH THE BULK PRODUCT AND THE PHOSPHINE PRODUCTION AREA BY PULSES WHOSE FLOW AND DURATION AND INTERVALS BETWEEN PULSES ARE CHOSEN TO AVOID EXCESSIVE OR DANGEROUS GAS ACCUMULATIONS AND TO ENSURE OPTIMAL PEST CONTROL CONDITIONS THROUGHOUT THE SYSTEM AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. THE GAS IN THE INTERSTICES OF THE PRODUCT IS CHANGED BY CIRCULATION 5 TO 15 TIMES IN THE PERIOD OF TIME NECESSARY FOR THE RELEASE OF 90 OF THE AVAILABLE PHOSPHINE FROM THE METAL PHOSPHIDE. C.
