THE PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING NICKEL METAL FROM A NICKEL-OXIDIZED RAW MATERIAL INCLUDES THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A PLASMA JET, GENERATES BY PASSING A REDUCING GAS THROUGH A ZONE WHERE AN ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE OF THE HEATER, THE HEATER, IS STARTED. MATERIAL OXIDIZED BY THE HEAT OF THE PLASMA JET UP TO THE NICKEL MELTING TEMPERATURE. DURING HEATING THERE IS REDUCTION OF NICKEL OXIDES IN METAL, PARTIAL REDUCTION OF IRON AND COBALT OXIDES IN THE RAW MATERIAL OXYDEENICKELIFERE AND FORMATION OF A BATH OF NICKEL METAL. THE REDUCTION OF THE METAL OXIDES IS CARRIED OUT IN THE PRESENCE OF THE REDUCING GAS, THE QUANTITY OF WHICH IS CHOSEN FROM A VALUE SITUATED BETWEEN ABOUT 1.2 AND ABOUT 1.75 TIMES THE STOECHIOMETRIC QUANTITY OF THE REDUCING GAS. FURTHER, THE PROCESS INCLUDES DESULFURATION OF THE NICKEL METAL BATH OBTAINED AND THE ELIMINATION OF GASES DISSOLVED THERE, AS WELL AS INCOMPLETELY REDUCED IRON AND COBALT OXIDES CONTAINED THEREIN. |
