abstract A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF RESORCINOL AND RESORCINOLS SUBSTITUTED BY A FIRST REACTIONAL CYCLING STAGE IN THE VAPOR PHASE OF A DELTA-CETOCARBOXYLIC ACID ESTER ON A CYCLONIC CATALYST BED TO GIVE A 1,3-DIONIC INTERMEDIATE. THE DELTA-KETOESTER IS MOVED THROUGH THE CATALYST BED BY A GASEOUS CARRIER CHARACTERIZED IN THAT IT IS LIQUID AT 25C AND HAS A SUFFICIENT BOILING POINT FOR THE GAS CARRIER TO BE EASILY CONDENSABLE UNDER AMBIENT CONDITIONS. IN A SECOND REACTIONAL STEP, A LIQUID IN WHICH IS DISSOLVED THE INTERMEDIATE CYCLIC 1,3-DIONE IS CONTACT WITH A NOBLE METAL-BASED CATALYST ON A SUPPORT TO FORM RESORCINOL OR A SUBSTITUTE RESORCINOL.
