IT CONCERNS A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF DINITRILS BY ADDITION OF HYDROGEN CYANIDE TO UNSATURE, NON-CONJUGATE NITRILS IN THE PRESENCE OF A ZEROVALENT NICKEL CATALYST IN A PRIMARY REACTION ZONE UNDER MODERATE CONDITIONS OF CYANHYDRATION, AT THE EXIT FROM THE PRIMARY ZONE, OF A DINITRILE PRODUCT CONTAINING AT LEAST 1000 PPM OF INALTERED HYDROGEN CYANIDE, CHARACTERIZED IN THAT THIS EFFLUENT IS PASSED THROUGH A SECONDARY ZONE, IN THE ABSENCE OF ADDED HYDROGEN CYANIDE , WHILE MAINTAINING THE EFFLUENT AT A TEMPERATURE OF APPROXIMATELY 45 TO 85C, THE VOLUME OF THE SECONDARY ZONE IS SUFFICIENT TO ENSURE THE EFFLUENT STAYING TIME OF APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES TO 2 HOURS. APPLICATION IN PARTICULAR TO THE PREPARATION OF ADIPONITRILE.
