abstract | THIS PROCESS ALLOWS FOR EXAMPLE TO DETERMINE THE POROSITY OF THE FORMATIONS CROSSED BY A SURVEY. A NEUTRON DIAGRAPHY DEVICE IS MOVED IN THE SURVEY BY IRRADIING NEUTRON THE FORMATIONS. THIS APPARATUS INCLUDES A SOURCE OF NEUTRONS AND TWO DETECTORS AT DIFFERENT DISTANCES FROM THE SOURCE. THE NEUTRONS FROM THE FORMATIONS ARE DETECTED AND SIGNALS ARE DEVELOPED BASED ON THE COUNTING RATES OF THE DETECTORS. IN RESPONSE TO THESE SIGNALS, AN INDICATION OF POROSITY IS PRODUCED SENSITIVELY INDEPENDENT OF ERRORS DUE TO THE DEVIATION OF THE DEVICE FROM THE SURVEY WALL. WE ALSO DEVELOP VALUES FOR THIS DISPATCH. THESE GAP VALUES ARE FILTERED TO REDUCE STATISTICAL VARIATIONS, THEN USED TO DEVELOP CORRECTED POROSITY INDICATIONS. |
