THE INVENTION RELATES TO A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF O-SUBSTITUTE PHENOLS BY CATALYTIC REACTION OF PHENOLS HAVING AT LEAST ONE ORTHO FREE POSITION WITH ALCOHOLS AND OR THEIR ETHERS. ACCORDING TO THE INVENTION, PHENOL AND OR MONO-ETOU DIALKYLPHENOLS ARE REACTED WITH METHANOL AND OR DIMETHYL OXIDE IN A MOLAR RATIO OF 1: 0, 1-10 AT A TEMPERATURE OF 270-390C AND WITH A PERIOD OF PERIOD. OF 0.05-10SECONDS IN THE VAPOR PHASE IN THE PRESENCE OF A CATALYST WHICH CONTAINS: A. IRON OXIDE; B. OF VANADIUM OXIDE; C.
