abstract | The porous diaphragms obtained exhibit very improved qualities of solidity, resistance to chemical agents and dimensional stability. A diaphragm made of inorganic fibers is impregnated with a solution of a zirconium compound which, after drying, is pyrolyzed into ZrO2 coating the fibers. Impregnation is preferably carried out with an aqueous solution and can take place from the stage of making the mast constituting the diaphragm, or else immediately after, or even on a pre-existing diaphragm. In the first case, a grout of asbestos fibers is made which is passed over a porous surface so as to deposit a mast of fibers (diaphragm). Field: electrolysis in electrochemical cells with porous diaphragms, in particular for electrolysis involving chlorine ions. |
