THE PRESENT INVENTION CONCERNS VACUUM TECHNOLOGY, AND IN PARTICULAR, THE PREPARATION OF VERY HIGH VACUUM OILS. THE PROCESS OF THE INVENTION CONSISTS OF CARRYING OUT THE ALCOYLATION OF AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS BY NORMAL SECONDARY ALCOHYL CHLORIDES CONTAINING FROM 8 TO 12 CARBON ATOMS OR BY A MIXTURE OF THESE, BY RAISING THE TEMPERATURE OF 20 TO 100C, IN THE PRESENCE OF ALUMINUM CHLORIDE TAKEN AT A RATIO OF 2 TO 15 MOLAR IN RELATION TO ALCOHOL CHLORIDES, ALCOHYL CHLORIDES AND AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS THEN TAKEN IN A RATIO OF 2.5 TO 5.1 WE CONDUCT THE ALCOHYLATION UNTIL THE RELEASE OF HYDROGEN-CHLORINE CHLORIDE HAS STOPPED, THE CATALYST IS SEPARATED FROM THE ALCOHYLATION PRODUCT AND IS SUBJECTED THE LATTER TO VACUUM DISTILLATION, TAKING THE BOILING FRACTION FROM 220 TO 250C26,6-40PA.
