abstract | PROCESS FOR PREPARING EXO-TETRAHYDRODICYCLOPENTADIENE. THE DIMERE OF DICYCLOPENTADIENE IS HYDROGENATED IN THE FORM OF ENDO IN THE PRESENCE OF A NICKEL CATALYST, THE REACTION GIVING A DERIVATIVE OF CRUDE ENDO-TETRAHYDRODICYCLOPENTADIENE WITH A MELTING POINT AT LEAST 70C; THE CRUDE PRODUCT OBTAINED IS PUT IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH ALUMINUM CHLORIDE AND MAINTAINED AT A TEMPERATURE OF APPROXIMATELY 100 TO 150C, THUS CAUSING A PRACTICALLY COMPLETE CONVERSION OF THE ENDO ISOMER INTO THE CORRESPONDING EXO ISOMER; AND THE EXO ISOMER IS SEPARATED FROM THE SLUDGE-FORMING COMPONENTS IN THE MIXTURE OF THE ISOMERIZATION REACTION. EXO-TETRAHYDRODICYCLOPENTADIENE CONSTITUTES A FUEL OF ROCKET PROPELLED SYSTEMS. |
