THE INVENTION RELATES TO INDUSTRIAL ORGANIC CHEMISTRY. IT CONCERNS A PROCESS FOR PURIFYING ACETONITRILE, CHARACTERIZED IN THAT A CRUDE ACETONITRILE CONTAINING INITIALLY AT LEAST WATER AND CYANHYDRIC ACID WITH AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION BASICALLY CONSISTING OF 25 TO 60 BY WEIGHT 'AN ALKALINE METAL HYDROXIDE AND, THEN, AN ACETONITRILE IS RECOVERED, CONTAINING PRACTICALLY NO HYDROCYAN ACID AND HAVING A LOWER WATER CONTENT THAN RAW ACETONITRILE. USE BY ACETONITRILE PRODUCERS. |
