OTHERWISE AND TOWARDS THE INTERIOR OF THE CHAMBER, THE ACTIVE SURFACE OF AT LEAST ONE OF THE CATHODES CONSISTING OF A MATERIAL EMITTING BETA RAYS, AND AN ANODE 18A, PLACED BETWEEN THE CATHODES SO AS THE ELECTRONS PRODUCED BY THE ELECTRIC FIELD ARE TRANSMITTED BETWEEN THE OPPOSITE ACTIVE SURFACES OF THE CATHODES AND PRODUCE, BY SHOCK, SECONDARY ELECTRONS.
