abstract THE PROCESS ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION ALLOWS THE PRODUCTION OF A CHLORIDE-FREE COBALT SOLUTION FROM A COBALTIC OXIDE HYDRATE SLURRY CONTAINING CHLORIDES WITH AN ELECTROLYTE SULPHATE USE. THE PROCESS INCLUDES THE SPRAYING OF AIR THROUGH THE BOIL, WHICH ELIMINATES, IN THE STATE OF CHLORINE GAS, THE CHLORIDE IONS, AND THEN THE ADDITION OF A REDUCING AGENT, WHICH MAY BE OXYGENATED WATER, OF SULPHUROUS ANHYDRIDE OR AN ORGANIC REDUCING AGENT CAPABLE OF REDUCING CHLORINE FROM ITS TRIVAL TO ITS DIVALENT STATE. THE SOLUTION CONTAINING COBALT AND FREE OF CHLORIDES CAN THEN BE USED FOR THE ELECTROLYTIC EXTRACTION OF COBALT WITHOUT THE PRECAUTIONS NECESSARY WHEN USING AN ELECTROLYTE WHICH CONTAINS IOTONS FOR ITS CHLIMORIDE, CHLORINE GAS RELEASED AND SPECIAL ANODES CHEMICALLY RESISTANT TO CHLORINE GAS.
