abstract | The invention relates to a method for measuring the mean size and standard deviation of particles. IT CONSISTS OF LIGHTING A SUSPENSION OF THE PARTICLES BY MEANS OF THREE R, R AND R WAVELENGTH RADIATION BEAMS AND MEASURING THE AMOUNTS OF RADIATION THROUGH THE SUSPENSION. THE RESULTS OBTAINED ARE COMPARED WITH THOSE RELATING TO THE LIQUID MEDIUM FREE OF PARTICLES, AND ATTENUATION REPORTS R AND T, FOR WAVELENGTHS R AND R on the one hand, AND, on the other hand, THE LENGTHS OF ' R AND R WAVES ARE COMPARED WITH A SET OF PREVIOUSLY CALCULATED VALUES FOR THESE REPORTS. THE PROCESS MAY BE CARRIED OUT BY MEANS OF A SPECTROPHOTOMETER IN WHICH TWO OR MORE OPTICAL DENSITIES CORRESPONDING TO TWO OR MORE WAVELENGTHS ARE SIMULTANEOUSLY COMPARED. THE PROCESS IS PARTICULARLY APPLIED TO AQUEOUS SUSPENSIONS OF A TITANIUM DIOXIDE PIGMENT WHEN THE R WAVELENGTH IS BETWEEN 480 AND 520 NM, THE R WAVELENGTH IS BETWEEN 600 AND 800 NM, AND THE LENGTH R WAVE IS BETWEEN 400 AND 480 NM AND DOES NOT EXCEED (R-40) NM. |
