THE GASES ARE COOLED AND CONDENSED AT 10, WITH RECYCLING OF THE CONDENSATE 16; THE NON-CONDENSED GASES 20 ARE WASHED BY COUNTERCURRENT WATER 24 AT LOW TEMPERATURE, WHICH EXTRACTS ALMOST ALL OF THE METHACROLEIN IN A TOWER 22; THE AQUEOUS SOLUTION 26 IS STRIPE AT 30 BY RECYCLING VAPORS C CLEARED OF THE METHACRYLIC ACID SUBSEQUENTLY PRODUCED; AND THE VAPORS 40, D CHARGED WITH METHACROLEINE ARE THEN OXIDIZED TO METHACRYLIC ACID. METHACRYLIC ACID IS A SYNTHESIS INTERMEDIATE (ORGANIC GLASS). |
