abstract Method and apparatus for determining the total nitrogen content in aqueous systems. This process involves passing a stream of inert gas, substantially free of nitrogen and carbon dioxide, through a reaction tube, which is packed with a decomposition catalyst and maintained at a temperature of 700 to 1200 degrees. C, a condenser 8 and a moisture absorption tube 9, in that order, to inject an aqueous experimental sample to be analyzed into the reaction tube and to send the gaseous products leaving the humidity absorption tube to a spectrometer of mass to determine the nitrogen content. The present invention is particularly useful for determining the total nitrogen content in nitrogen compounds contained in aqueous systems, quickly and accurately, and with high sensitivity.
