abstract | This invention relates to the preparation of esters of mono- or dicarboxylic acids with aliphatic alcohols. For this preparation, the amide of an aliphatic or aromatic mono- or dicarboxylic acid is reacted with a saturated or unsaturated mono- or bivalent aliphatic alcohol and sulfuric acid and (or) ammonium bisulfate. 0.5 mole of sulfuric acid or one mole of ammonium bisulphate is used per equivalent of amide, so that in addition to the carboxylic acid ester, ammonium sulphate is formed which does not contain ammonium bisulfate. This process makes it possible to achieve significant savings in sulfuric acid compared with known processes and also makes possible the use of ammonium bisulfate. |
