This invention relates to contact lenses. This contact lens has sufficient oxygen transfer capacity to meet the needs of the cornea of the human eye, it contains no charge, is hydrolyzed stable, biologically inert and transparent. It is formed by a poly (organosiloxane) linked by its terminations through a divalent hydrocarbon group, to a polymerized activated unsaturated group. It can be formed by copolymers which result from the polymerization of monomeric polysiloxanes with one or more monomers containing an activated vinyl group. These contact lenses can be hard or soft but are preferably soft. The polymers used can also be used in the manufacture of other optical products, for example intraocular implants. |
