abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of optionally substituted thioxanthones. According to the process of the invention, an o, o'-dihalobenzophenone is reacted with a metal sulphide or hydrogen sulphide. The optionally substituted thioxanthones thus obtained can be used as photopolymerization initiating agents.
