abstract | The present invention relates to a process for preparing organomagnesium complexes of soluble hydrocarbons of formula: (RR'Mg) m, (R3 AL) n in which: R is a primary, secondary or tertiary alkyl radical comprising 1 to 25 carbon atoms; R 'is a primary alkyl radical having 1 to 25 carbon atoms, and / or a phenyl radical; m and n are numbers such that the m / n ratio is of the order of 1 or greater; this process comprising the following two steps: a. reacting metallic magnesium with an alkyl or phenyl halide of the formula R'X where R 'is as defined above and X is a chlorine, bromine or iodine atom at a temperature between 20 and 200 degrees C, the Mg / X molar ratio being between 1 and 2; b. in adding to the resulting reaction mixture a metal organoaluminate of formula R4 AlM in which R is as defined above and M is sodium, potassium or lithium, the molar ratio M / Mg used in step a. being less than 1/1.
