titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR PREPARING 1,2-DICHLORETHANE
abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 1,2-dichloroethane by oxychlorination of ethylene using hydrogen chloride gas and a gas containing molecular oxygen in the gas phase, at elevated temperature and in the presence of. a copper-II chloride fluidized bed catalyst on a support, in which the reaction gases are cooled under pressure in two stages of condensation, the condensed 1,2-dichloroethane is then discharged and most of the gases are recycled. starting unconverted and inert gases. The process according to the invention is more particularly characterized in that, in a third condensation stage, the reaction gases are cooled to a temperature of between 5 and 18 degrees C to an extent just sufficient to retain 0.5 to 3, 0% by volume of 1,2-dichloroethane and the recycle gas is mixed directly, upstream of the reactor, with the quantity of pure oxygen necessary to replace the oxygen consumed and restore an oxygen content of 12 to 25% in volume.
