abstract The present invention relates to a highly crystalline, rapidly crystallizing thermoplastic terephthalic acid copolyester. This copolyester consists of at least 90 mole%, relative to the dicarboxylic acid component, of terephthalic acid radicals, of approximately 98 to 99.9 moles, relative to the diol component, of ethylene glycol radicals and of approximately 0.1 to 2, 0 mole%, based on the diol component, of 2-ethylhexane- 1,3-dioL radicals The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of thermoplastic terephthalic acid copolyesters, crystallizing more rapidly than the homopolymer of polyethylene terephthalate according to in which an acid component is esterified or transesterified with a diol component, at a temperature of approximately 150-250 degrees C, in the presence of suitable catalysts, and the products of the initial reaction are polycondensed at approximately 200-300 degrees C, under pressure reduced and in the presence of an esterification catalyst.
